The Beauty Way

There is a flower that grows only in the Namibian desert and Southern Angola. Little other flowers grow in these desert regions because the conditions are too harsh, too hot and too dry. This plant is called the Welwitschia mirabilis.

Mirabilis is translated in Latin as “marvellous”. It survives by utilizing the fog that blows from the Atlantic Ocean by catching it with its fine hairs. When you see this plant, it looks almost dead, until closer inspection shows that it is a thriving specimen of the plant world.

There is much to learn from the Welwitschia. This plant teacher shows us how to create sustenance for ourselves in environments which seem docile. Our sustenance comes from finding and harnessing beauty in every situation to come back into alignment with the core of who we are. The beauty way is a path and a journey we as spiritual beings embark on to shed light on the dark spaces around and within us. The beauty way is the way of the luminous warrior, that shines light in situations so that what hides in the dark can become visible. The funny thing about visibility is that we aren’t frightened of it, we see that it is actually not as large or ferocious as our thinking minds made them out to be.

The beauty way is a way of practise. It is a way of finding beauty in every situation that comes across our paths. Like the Welwitschia we may not have the flowing water we desire, but we can harness the fog, to grow in an environment where other plant species wouldn’t survive because they don’t capture the source of sustenance the Welwitschia does. In a dark night of the soul, there is always something that brings light into our lives. The feeling of being with our beloved, the feeling of being held by our mother the earth, a child laughing, a kite flying in the wind. Whatever it is, sit with the feeling that this light gives you. Even if it’s as small as a sparkle in the night sky. Send this light to the dark places within yourself, the spaces that need light, the spaces that need attention, that need love. Hold this sparkle there and allow it to illuminate the parts of you that are in the dark.

Like the Welwitschia in her patience for sitting and waiting for better conditions that make her so preserving, we too must be patient with ourselves in our desires. What is yours will come to you in perfect time; will build a rainbow bridge towards that desire. Painting the world with your rainbow light, start to get to know beauty until you become the beauty you create. This practise is healing in the sense that we become the creators, we become empowered.

How do we then create beauty or walk the way of beauty? On a practical level, we paint everything we touch with our sacred medicine. Everything we do in a day, we do so hastily and so rapidly so as to move on to the next thing, to do the next thing and then again and again until ad infinitum or until we become sick. When we then finally get grabbed into the awareness of: “Stop, smell the flowers” it sometimes is too late. Every task that you do, do it with sacred energy, the energy of preparing something for your beloved, your higher self – whatever strokes your divinity. The magic of working in sacred space is that we step out of ordinary time. Suddenly things don’t feel so rushed, suddenly we are involved in what we are creating, suddenly we become the divine creator.

On an inner dimension or the emotional level, we find the gifts of whatever is holding us down. This has to do with shifting our focus point in any given situation. This works on a high level, in a sense that what we focus on and put energy into allows us to access deeper dimensions. When we shift our attention, our point, our arrow to the gift our focus shifts to the higher resources and guidance that flows to us. This happens when we remain open, for when we remain open, even through a trauma that closes us down, we vibrate at higher frequencies. It is here where we ask for divine help, for signs, messages or the allowing of feeling our emotional state in our bodies. Our bodies hold the knowledge of what is in alignment with us and what is holding us down. When we are in alignment with our heart and soul we will eventually hit our mark. We let go of the feelings of unworthiness or scarcity and rather step into wisdom. For our lessons become our sources of power and our divinity to share with the world, to create the beauty we seek.

We are the people we have been waiting for. Drink from the clean waters of life, or the fog like the Welwitschia mirabilis and become marvellous.
